About

Named for Peter Bartow Smith, a long time educator in Fauquier County, P. B. Smith opened its doors in the fall of 1969. Because the building was not certified for occupancy until after the beginning of the school year, our students, supplies and teachers were housed in other schools in the county until we could move in. When the word was given that we were clear to occupy the building, over the course of a weekend our parents worked tirelessly to move all of the stored supplies and furniture into our new school for a Monday opening. We decided to honor their superhuman efforts for us by choosing the roadrunner for our mascot. After four decades, we still depend heavily on our parents for support and they are always there to lend it in any way we ask. They continue to metaphorically "run up and down the road for us" so that we can spend our time working to offer their children the best education we can.
